Journey Through... : Learning to Block Code using Sphero Bots
Campers will work collaboratively in small teams to define their own journeys and, using Scratch, program a Sphero robot through obstacles that they plan and build.. They will also create a short video or written story highlighting their challenges and solutions. Teams might turn their bot into an astronaut journeying through the moon, or a float going through a parade, or a dancing diva on a dance floor. It's up to the them! SEATS ARE LIMITED. $385

Thingumajigs: Building Rube Goldberg Devices
Thingumajigs is a camp for kids who love to experiment and figure out creative and silly ways to make things happen! Campers will apply and experience the design process. Groups will agree on a simple task for which they will use concepts of levers, gears, wheels, pulleys, and inclines, to string together a complex array of simple machines. They will design their plans, collect materials, build and refine their machines, and reflect on their failures and successes. Rube Goldberg would be proud! $300

Adventurecraft: Creating Minecraft Adventure Maps
Have you ever embarked on an adventure in Minecraft, fraught with puzzles and danger? Perhaps you've wanted to design your own adventure instead, and pit players against gauntlets of monsters through winding labyrinths with Redstone traps. Or you can create own mysteries that your friends can explore and teach some tips and tricks to make any normal room contain a monarch's hoard of secrets. $375

Brand It! From Concept to Product
Over these two weeks, campers will make a natural health or beauty product (e.g., lip balm or bug spray) as they learn and implement basic principles and tools of product development, brand-building, and graphic design. We will experiment with different formulations and conduct market research to create their final product. Then, campers will think about what makes the product special and translate it into a brand positioning, tagline, and brand marks (e.g. logo, colors, imagery, fonts). Taking all of these elements together, campers will implement their product design and create a print ad.

Sculpture ALIVE!: Making Interactive Art
This STEAM camp combines art with technology as we will be creating sculptures to interact* with coded computer programs. Build a papier-mâché guitar and create an interface to actually hear the notes played on the comptuer! Our week will be broken up into two segments - early in the week kids build sculptures using balloons, papier-mâché, and conductive materials. The later half of the week kids will enhance their coding knowledge with Scratch to create their own program. Our final day will fuse the two together and campers will be able to control their program with their sculptures! $375*
*Makey-Makey kits are available for purchase for an additional $15 (which are payable before end of the camp). If you are not interested in purchasing, campers borrow Makey-Makey and return at the end of camp. |
Animation ALIVE!: Storytelling Through Coding and Mixed Media
Campers become authors as they learn how to pick a theme, create a storyboard, and then bring it to life as an animation using Scratch Jr (digital platform). Half of camp is spent in the technology lab where they learn to basic programming concepts. The other half will be in the art studio where they will have fun getting messy. Cartooning basics will be practiced as we use their main characters to create comic books and make miniature models and dioramas from clay and mixed media. $375
*Students are allowed to bring in their own tablets as long as Scratch Jr has been pre-downloaded.

Minecraft Around the World in 5 Days: Creative World Building & Architecture
Campers will imagine themselves in a hot air balloon and travel to different lands (or time) where they will learn about and research different types of architecture. Inspired by what they've learned, campers will "craft" their own structures in two ways: using real-world materials and art media (e.g., Legos, cardboard, paper, clay) and Minecraft. Projects will be student-driven and guided by our instructor and counselors who will also provide instruction. $375

Minecraft Art Heist: Redstone Engineering and Traps
Minecrafters turn into art collectors as they research and learn about artworks from around the world. Then, they will re-create and assemble their favorite pieces in their own Minecraft museum with a state-of-the art security system. Campers will learn how to use redstone engineering to create their security traps and contraptions that will thwart their fellow 'Crafters who will be invited to test the security system. $375

Cardboard Quest JR
Cardboard Quest & Engineering
Step into another world as your wits are put to the test! This is our most comprehensive STEAM adventure, where campers will build their 21st Century skills with 5th Century inspiration! We will come together to collaborate on customizing flags, as well as design and build structures and armor from the finest cardboard in the land.
In the second week of Quest, campers will then embark on cooperative adventures that will challenge our scientific, engineering, creative, and physical abilities. They may need to design and build a boat out entirely out of cardboard, and to up the ante, they'll also have to test it themselves! One day we might learn about trebuchets, and launch water balloons out of our very own (made entirely out of cardboard!) Several of the design challenges will be team-focused as well, promoting and inspiring collaboration and cooperation. |
Lost Civilizations: From Culture-Building to Multi-Media Museum Exhibit
Our newest two-week camp takes STEAM to another level! Campers will work in groups to create their own civilization with its own culture, language and beliefs, and build artifacts that represent their world. Each group will bury these artifacts and take on roles of archaeologists as they dig another group's relics. They will learn how to survey excavation sites, to document their findings, and to develop their hypotheses on the story behind these discoveries in order to piece together the lost civilization. All their work will culminate in the creation of a multi-media museum exhibit and research symposium that showcases their findings. $720

Project Arcade: Designing Games on Minecraft and on Tabletop
Kids who love games of all kinds will love this camp. We will discuss what makes a good game? What does good game design look like? What elements does one have to think about to make a good game? They will then apply these principles by designing their own games using two different platforms -- Minecraft and everyday materials (e.g., cardstock, rubber bands, gears). Does the platform affect how one enjoys the game? Can one design the same game on two different platforms? Campers can ask these questions and see for themselves as they test their games! $375
