Wait, why is my kid is suddenly getting an extra scoop of ice cream – what’s next an allowance? They have obviously learned to negotiate & debate – and with your help will apply their newfound powers for their own and for the greater good.
Wednesday afterschool STEAM course Negotiation & Debate came to a dramatic conclusion yesterday with a (school) Presidential debate among 8 strong competitors.
Students created a campaign theme, micro platform, polls/anecdotes, and used their own (or an adopted/enhanced) personality/character. They showed great progress from our fun first week debate – Cats v Dogs; and our first negotiation over one dollar ($). In addition to strategy & tactics they used personality & style to enhance their performance based on the characteristics they chose to highlight – from logic, to humor, to leadership, and combinations of more. Their platform ideas were useful and came from the their & their classmates needs: food – fitness – fun – fairness – field trips – options to vote on for themselves – and beyond. I know their ideas are poll tested with their peers, and I will venture a guess that they could take their school and well beyond by storm as easily as they could lift a finger… so please stay tuned.
